In October 2023, my professor Alper Kanylmaz, PhD. Alexsei Kondratenko, and I published a paper named:
“How does conceptual design impact the cost and carbon footprint of structures?”.

This study showed that architects and engineers possess the ability to significantly reduce the embodied carbon of structural systems by selecting the appropriate materials and structural system at the conceptual design stage.

My role was as a software developer using Python to develop the artificial intelligence tool and do sensitivity analysis.

Master thesis of conceptual design of mass timber structures using GAs

In April 2022, I successfully completed my studies at Politecnico di Milano with a thesis titled “Conceptual Design of Mass Timber Structures Using Genetic Algorithms.”

Supervisor: Prof. Alper Kanyilmaz and Co-supervisors: PhD. Aleksei Kondratenko and Sustainable Director Tolga Tutar.

I have learned technical skills in Python, Github, and genetic algorithms. And I got the full mark 8/8 for this thesis.

AI in AEC Virtual Conference 2022

My colleague and I were among the speakers who presented at the AI in AEC 2022 conference, which had over 230 registered participants from 30 countries.

The audience was very curious about the GA tool, and I received many questions from them. I have learned that receiving user feedback is essential to improving the software. In the future, this tool could be deployed as a web application. In this way, users can benefit from the tool, and the research team can also make the most of users’ comments to develop it further.
